Just Do It

Denico Jackson is a senior from Warner Robins, Ga., who is majoring in physical activity and health. A frequent user of the Recreation and Wellness Center, Denico also serves as a Campus Recreation facility attendant.

 

Upon graduation, what are your plans?

I plan on entering either physical therapy school or physical therapy assistant school.

 

What sports have you participated in?

I played three sports in high school— wrestling, football, and track and field. Football was my favorite sport.

 

What one thing do you currently do in your training that is key to success?

My ultimate goal of each training session is to finish what I start. I look at it as if I were taking a test. If I quit halfway through a test, that results in me failing. Therefore, I feel like I’ve failed myself of progression if I quit at any time.

 

Who are some of your sports heroes and what do you admire most about them?

I admire anyone who has similar or greater goals than I have. I love seeing people directing their energy toward something great and positive. I also admire the humble.

 

Describe your typical day.

My days are pretty normal, but throughout my day I always feel the urge to do some activity to get my blood pumping. It’s hard for me to be sedentary too long.

 

What’s on your workout playlist?

I don’t really have a playlist, but if I did A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Kevin Gates, Linkin Park, Logic, ScHoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, and Big K.R.I.T. would definitely be on there.

 

What would be your ultimate achievement?

Making it this far in my life is my ultimate achievement. I feel each day I’m alive is a blessing. Receiving those blessings are achievements to me.

 

What is your biggest challenge, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

My biggest challenge used to be eating healthy. I use to eat out a lot and make bad food choices. Now I cook most of my meals to reduce the temptation of those bad food choices.

 

Describe your diet.

I usually cook my meals. These meals usually include a good source of protein with fat and some kind of carb and veggies. I also snack on fruit and granola bars throughout the day. And I try to drink a gallon of water a day.

 

Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

It’s cliché, but I would say Nike’s “Just Do It” is my motto. There have been plenty of tasks I’ve had to contemplate doing and that quote pops in my head.

 

If you could be any piece of equipment in The Rec, what would you be and why?

An arm pedal bike machine. Since I'm always at The Rec, I notice that this machine is not used a lot. I don’t think I’d be comfortable with a lot of people’s sweat on me.
